ABOUT CINESONIC

CineSonic (Christian Pazzaglia & Bass Beek) curated and produced over 60 live events combining film and video art with new soundtracks composed and performed live by cutting edge artists from 2007 to 2019.

CineSonic was established in 2007 as a creative platform offering cutting-edge musicians and sound artists the opportunity to compose new soundtracks for silent films, experimental cinema and video art. CineSonic has commissioned soundtracks to musicians such as Hauschka, ZZZ, Shackleton, Wolfgang Voigt, Lone, Robert Lippok, Jan Jelinek, Machinefabriek, Legowelt, Pole, Tom Trago, Morphosis, I-F, Bombay and many more.

CineSonic live shows have been hosted by some of the most prominent festivals and venues of The Netherlands and abroad, among which Lowlands festival, Into the Great Wide Open, IDFA, 5 Days Off, EYE Film Institute, Goethe Institute, Transylvania International Film Festival, Noordelijk Film Festival, Rocket Cinema, Paradiso, Melkweg and TrouwAmsterdam.

The concept behind CineSonic was to offer musicians and sound artists complete freedom to interact with films, experimental cinema and video art. Artists are encouraged to move out of the comfort zone of their regular way of composing music and broaden their artistic practice. Through these creative encounters, new dynamics between audio and visual elements are explored and revealed.

All CineSonic film concerts had a unique scope and intention and were distinguished by an accentuation of the live performance aspect, giving a new dimension to the familiar ways of ‘watching a film’ and ‘listening to live music’.

Through a carefully curated program of ever-changing live events, CineSonic kept inviting audiences to discover the work of international filmmakers, visual artists and musicians alike.

CineSonic is a project of Stichting Film en Media Festival Amsterdam.
